Drug Prevention & Recovery

A Casual and Purposeful Location

We understand what you are going through and we want to help. Realizing that your body may not only have a physical dependence on a drug, but may have other attributes or qualities that encourage drug use; such as depression, pain, hepatitis, and more.  Dr. Sexton has developed an integrative model that helps many of our patients overcome addiction.

Our model focuses on a broad range of treatments and services based on an individual's needs.  These will help combat addiction from day one; possibly non-addictive medication to help you resist the urge to use while integrating a combination of medical services, mental health services and healthy lifestyle plans.

Mid to Long-Term Addiction Maintenance Therapy

This is a term often applied to suboxone therapy for opioid dependent patients. The buprenorphine fights the cravings for stronger and more dangerous opioids while the naltrexone prevents further use of opioids while you are taking the medication. Similar medications may be available for other substances and we could discuss those at any appointment with you. Typically patients choose this when the consequences of taking time off work to  detox rapidly or the time to go to a 30 day rehab just cannot be spared. The benefits are that the withdrawal symptoms tend not to be as severe as a rapid detox. The medication is started at a dose which prevents the cravings and withdrawal symptoms and then slowly tapered down over many months or even a few years. By doing this slowly, very little withdrawal is felt if the taper is done right and not rushed. Those patients who have complained of coming off of suboxone from other clinics often find that they were dropped too rapidly from the doses they were on, thus causing worse withdrawals. We have a great amount of experience in doing this slowly and in a controlled fashion to prevent those outcomes. Expect to get off suboxone within a year or two. We will adjust this to your symptoms of withdrawal as well as life stressors to avoid putting you in a vulnerable position for relapse.

All of the treatments are covered by your PPO insurance.

Substance Abuse Treatment

Whether you recognize your pattern of substance abuse or not, or whether you are using it to self-treat your depression or are merely contributing to it, we at Encinitas Family Care want to help you overcome your dependence.  Perhaps you got addicted to prescription pain medications because of a terrible accident or because of watching friends or relatives do the same.  We understand that the influences are strong and need great attention, especially if you still have very REAL pain to deal with.  We can help you with explore other options that have less addictive potential, and help you get back to the activities you enjoy.  Admit to yourself that you need some help, realize that you are worth helping, and allow us to work with you toward recovery.

Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation

We offer full assistance with your efforts to get off of addictive and harmful chemicals including alcohol, nicotine, prescription medications, and opiates (prescription or street). Our services include counseling, continued follow up, treatment of withdrawal symptoms, and medications if needed and desired by you.  Medications are not necessary to receive assistance in recovering from addiction under our care, we simply offer them as a complement to our advice and encouragement.  Dr. Sexton is Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and has vast experience helping patients overcome their addictions in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Mid to Long-Term Addiction
Inpatient Rehab
Inpatient Rehab

We have a strong relationship with several local inpatient rehab facilities of differing styles. This is often the best and most successful method of stopping an addictive substance because the distractions of the real world may be neglected while you are in a rehab facility. You can focus only on your addiction as well as the stressors, contributors, triggers that make it so difficult to overcome on your own. The best rehab centers will make such therapy a prime goal, but will often place this into a context of a luxurious environment. They will often have an emphasis on good nutrition, consistent exercise and coping skills for the stresses of 21st century life. We can meet with you and discuss your goals, facilitate your admission as well as coordinate your discharge at the end to make sure that any medications, therapy and goals you have are continued as you reenter your life as a sober participant. Even if this has not worked for you in the past, there are differences in facilities and often even in the state of your own mind. Simply changing perspective can often be the key to getting more out of your rehab experience, so do not discount the value.  Research has shown this to be the most effective way to get off of drugs or alcohol. And research has also shown that, on average, it takes someone 8 times to completely quit their addictive substances. So do not feel intimidated or discouraged if you have relapsed after a prior treatment. We can help you find your way back.

All of the treatments are covered by your PPO insurance.
